Supporting patients to prepare for colonoscopy with voice AI-enabled phone calls

A real-world feasibility study, conducted by Healthily and Western Sydney LHD, found that human-in-the-loop Voice AI can significantly improve pre-procedure care. In a pilot with Western Sydney LHD, Voice AI outreach for colonoscopy preparation delivered strong returns on investment, major workforce productivity gains, and high patient satisfaction, while maintaining clinical oversight and reducing administrative burden.
The results from our real-world feasibility study suggest that human-in-the-loop Voice AI can deliver meaningful workforce and economic benefits in pre-procedure care.

With support from ANDHealth+, Healthily partnered with Western Sydney LHD (Westmead FOBT Clinic) to evaluate GoShare Voice (CareCalls) for colonoscopy preparation, comparing nurse-led calls with Voice AI outreach 7 and 2-days pre-procedure.

Key findings from the pilot:
• 55% return on investment
• 82% workforce productivity gain
• 27% opportunity cost saving
• 4.1/5 patient satisfaction

Importantly, the approach preserved clinical oversight while reducing administrative burden. These early results highlight the potential role of Voice AI in improving system efficiency, scalability, and patient experience, with clear implications for policy, digital health strategy, and AI governance.
